The future of Science & how to play God…

21 05 2010

Scientists have turned inanimate chemicals into a living organism in an experiment that raises profound questions about the essence of life.

a new organism is born!

Craig Venter, the U.S. genomics pioneer, announced on Thursday that scientists at his laboratories in Maryland and California had succeeded in their 15-year project to make the world’s first “synthetic cells” — bacteria called Mycoplasma mycoides.

“We have passed through a critical psychological barrier,” Dr. Venter told the FT. “It has changed my own thinking, both scientifically and philosophically, about life, and how it works.”

The bacteria’s genes were all constructed in the laboratory “from four bottles of chemicals on a chemical synthesizer, starting with information on a computer,” he said.

The research — published online by the journal Science — was hailed as a landmark by many independent scientists and philosophers.

“Venter is creaking open the most profound door in humanity’s history, potentially peeking into its destiny,” said Julian Savulescu, ethics professor at Oxford University. “This is a step towards … creation of living beings with capacities and natures that could never have naturally evolved.”

The synthetic bacteria have 14 “watermark sequences” attached to their genome — inert stretches of DNA added to distinguish them from their natural counterparts. They behaved and divided in lab dishes like natural bacteria.

May 5th 2010, Athens, Greece… early afternoon!

6 05 2010

Today one of the largest demonstration of the last decades took place downtown Athens…

The financial problems of Greece led the Government to ask for help, and the E.U, the E.C.B and the I.M.F. when realised  that the problem is spreading, decided to act, by financing the Greek Debt with a hefty amount of euros (110 billions for three years). In return, Greece have to pay the money back with interest, and of course to take precautions and measures against financial mishandling, and extra spending…

The Government has, since then, taken some serious steps towards financial stability and public spending cuts…

these measures led most people to the streets on a strike spree.

Then … today, during one of the largest demonstration, rioters and ”demonstrators” with covered faces, started havoc !

during the peak of these riots, a group of unknown individuals threw a Molotov cocktail and a petrol can inside a bank, downtown Athens…with employees still inside!

3 dead and 20 injured….

The S_ _ t just hit the fan…

The S_ _ t just hit the fan !!!

Even Mr Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the managing director of IMF finally talked about the speculative hits that Greece has taken because of the continuous downgrading of Greek Economy by the three financial institutions…

They ‘ve left these white collar yuppies hitting hard on Greece, and for what??? for a couple of billions in earnings won by speculations against Greek Finances.

And all Europeans, especially those in the Eurozone region, did nothing  to help the EURO … because by helping Greece fight these speculators away, they are helping the common currency…

But they did nothing…  until now!

Now Europeans are running panicked because they are afraid of a domino effect… and even the Germans now are urging Europe to act quickly…

We, as a country, were asking for support,  for a safety net against speculators since February, but nothing happened. till now.

European coalition…

War on Greece's Finances

After the initial continuous  irresponsible articles about the Pandemic outbreak of the Economic Crisis in Greece published in FT or other European Economic Press,  now it is BBC turn to start the Economic War on Greece.

With a title like :

Could Greece be expelled from the eurozone?

and by citing an article published by the European Central Bank, BBC is trying to fit the name of  a country and fill the gaps /or even read between the lines. The article does not mention the name of the country, but the reader can be tricked easily by the article, starting from the title…

This article together with the previous articles in the financial  European press are hitting hard Greece’s Finances with the only gain being some millions or even billions of Euros, that have been invested on Greek banks, companies or even Government bonds…

enjoy the article…
